DEAR EDITOR,
I refer to an article in the Kaieteur News Sports Section on July 7, 2008, titled “Austin is not injured” by Edison Jefford.
I wish to make it categorically clear that the information published was totally fallacious. Earlier in the year Analisa informed the Amateur Athletics Association of Guyana of her desire to represent Guyana at either the Junior Carifta Games or World Juniors this year.
Junior Carifta was early in the year, so she was unable to compete there. She was subsequently made aware by the Amateur Athletics Association that she was being considered to represent Guyana at World Juniors.
However due to an hamstring injury she sustained whilst representing her University she was unable to represent Guyana at World Juniors. The required documents were sent to the relevant authority to validate her position of being injured.
Analisa and her coach have been in constant contact with the AAA and were totally aware early enough that she was representing Guyana at World Juniors.
So it was with great dismay and astonishment when Analisa was sent a copy of the article via e-mail. As her mother, I am dumbfounded by the level of reporting that is published in your newspaper.
My daughter is extremely upset, as it seems that she is being used as a pawn between the Amateur Athletics Association and the people that are up in arms against them.
Analisa has been representing Guyana for many years, and after migrating to the United States of America over four years ago, is still proud to represent the place of her birth. So whoever is your source of information, they are very inaccurate and erroneous.
Please in the future get your information from the horse’s mouth. Anyone can say anything that can be misleading and jeopardize our young athlete’s future. I hope that a retraction can be made to clear my daughter’s name.
Thank You.
Denise Wilson-Mahon.
