The Great Diamond Martial Arts Association turned in good results at last weekend’s Martial Arts tournament staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
They secured some 23 medals; nine gold, five silver and nine bronze from the 13 students which entered the various competitions staged.
Among those winning medals were Roy Ramoutarsingh who copped gold medals in the 18-35 years Kumite (fighting) and the free style Kata (form).
Calvin Ramcharran won the three minute sparring in the 16-17 division and also claimed three bronze medals in the weapons, and traditional Katas.
Sunil Persaud took the U-10 Kumite, Sudesh Misir the U-10 Kata along with bronze in the weapons Kata and was runner-up in the Grand Championship for overall top performers.
George Lim claimed Silver in the traditional Kata event and Rayaad Khan took gold in the 10-15 years Kumite.
Sensei Lloyd Ramnarine got a silver medal in the Open freestyle Kata, Javed Udai won silver and bronze medals in the respective Kata and Kumite he competed in, Ameenah Rahim took silver in one of the junior categories Kata, while Muhammad Rahim took silver in the Kumite in the junior division and Omar Khan secured a bronze.
Sensei Ramnarine noted that his students turned in an excellent performance, winning medals in every event in which they entered. He congratulated them and encouraged that they keep up the hard work.
The Great Diamond Martial Arts Association has planed an Inter Club competition involving students from its affiliates; Cornelia Ida, Diamond and Kuru Kuru. The event is set for the Providence Primary School on August 17.
