National champion Frederick Collins warmed up for the upcoming Caribbean Championships with a scorching performance to top the field in the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) Open Tournament which was played last Sunday at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
Collins ended the day unbeaten on 6 wins and a positive spread of 609 to come home ahead of Abigail McDonald, who closed on 5 points and a spread of 404, while Moen Gafoor completed the podium with 4 victories and a spread of 363.
Other good performances came from Leon Belony (309) and newcomer Paul Adams (212) who both secured 3 points.
The competition served as the final tournament before the national team leaves to compete in the Caribbean Championships in Barbados.
Meanwhile, GASP will be holding a ‘Movie Night’ tomorrow at the Sidewalk Café as part of their fundraising effort to send the team to the event.
The players selected are: F. Collins, Ulric Harris, William Wolford, L. Belony. A. McDonald, Colin Chichester, M. Gafoor and Orlando Michael.
