The Chairman of the English FA Lord David Triesman has confirmed his presence at this years TTFF’s Centennial Dinner which will be held on September 5.
TTFF Special Advisor Jack Warner got confirmation from Triesman as both met at the Euro 2008 Final in Vienna. Warner was there as a guest of UEFA in his capacity as FIFA Vice President and President of CONCACAF.
Warner also confirmed that UEFA President Michel Platini who presented the Euro Cup to Spain, will also be attending as a guest of the TTFF for the centennial dinner along with several other dignitaries including FIFA President Sepp Blatter, former FIFA President Joao Havelange, Franz Beckenbauer and Brazilian Pele.
Warner also met with and extended invitations to British Minister of Sport Gerry Sutcliffe and English FA Chief Executive Officer Brian Barwick.
“Lord Triesman will be among several top dignitaries in Trinidad that weekend in September for the TTFF’s Centennial Dinner. It promises to be a splendid affair as we intend to have some of the best with us to celebrate this milestone.
Of course we will also be in the midst of our semi-final campaign for the 2010 World Cup and our focus will continue to be ensuring that the country has a good chance as any to make it to a second consecutive World Cup.
“One of the most notable things said to me by Lord Triesman is that he realizes that football is the world’s greatest ambassador and we are all privileged to be part of this. He, just like the rest of us in our various capacities are determined to spread the good of football throughout the world.
The scenes in Vienna for the Euro Final showed evidence of this and it is our intention to see much more scenes and much more similar developments throughout the world… through football,” Warner stated. “The visits by these various guests will also involve possible discussions on measures towards ongoing developments, in football more so, both in our region and in their respective countries.”
Lord Triesman is currently the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, created in the 29 June 2007 reshuffle. Prior to this he was the Parliamentary Under Secretary in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with responsibility for: relations with Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Overseas Territories, the Commonwealth, UK visas, migration policy, consular policy, the British Council, the BBC World Service and the Chevening Scholarships Scheme.
Also a keen football fan and former grassroots player, coach and referee, he has been a Government Minister since 2004, initially as a Government Whip, then at the Foreign Office and recently at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
Warner also said that an upcoming schedule of warm-up matches is being finalized for the T&T Senior Team prior to the start of the semi-final round campaign and details of a two-match Central American trip, scheduled for next week, will be revealed in due course.
