The Kennard Memorial Turf Club will stage their Clico Day at the races programme on August 24 at their Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Racetrack.
About $3M in prize money along with trophies are at stake in the day’s event and the majority of the country’s racehorses are down to take part, in the eight-race programme, sponsored by Insurance giants Clico.
Entries close on Monday August 18; no late entry will be accepted.
Horse owners can contact Justice Cecil Kennard on telephone numbers 226-1399, 225-4818 or 623-7609, Roopnarine Matadial, popularly known as Shine, on telephone numbers 646-6584 or 325-3192 and the club’s Secretary Niketa Ross on 662-4668 or 325-3230 for entry of their horses.
They are two main events on the programme. The 3-yrs-old Open galloping for one mile and the C and Lower race covering a similar distance, will see the winner taking away $300,000 purses.
The 2-yrs Open running for 5 furlongs and the F and Lower over 6 furlongs carries $200,000 first prizes, while the G and Lower also covering 6 furlongs has a $150,000 purse for the winner. The I class event will run for 7 furlongs and has a $130,000 purse, while the J and Lower over 6 furlongs will see the winner taking away $110,000 and the L class carries a $90,000 first prize and will cover 6 furlongs.
The entire programme will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
