Nabi Construction Incorporated has donated approximately $100, 000 worth of medical supplies to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital after being solicited by Canada-based Guyanese Rupert Rupnarain.
After a visit to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital and conversing with a local medic, Rupnarain understood some of the challenges facing the hospital in providing a good health care service to the island’s residents.
Understanding the stark difference between the health care facilities in Wakenaam and Toronto, Rupnarain started to implore some of his acquaintances within the Guyanese business community.
Answering his call were Rafael Nabi and Shir Nabi, of Nabi Construction Incorporated, along with Wakenaam resident Michael Harrilall. Together they decided to donate a number of medical supplies to the island’s hospital.
Altogether, the Cottage Hospital received more than 8,000 pieces of medical supplies including two Blood Pressure Kits (Automatic), Chloropheniramine Maleate (Piriton), Anti-diarrhea Tabs (Lomotil), Antibiotics (Amoxicillin), Coated Aspirin and Paracetamol.
“We feel that it is our obligation as corporate citizens to assist when there is a need. In our opinion, social issues such as Health Care and Education are the responsibility of every citizen of this country and we would like to do our part in contributing to the well being of the Guyanese community,” explained Rafael Nabi.
Local resident Michael Harrilall added “We are truly blessed and supported by the residents of this Island. Donating towards a facility that benefits the entire community of Wakenaam makes us proud as Guyanese.”
