Meten-Meer-Zorg posted back to back wins when play in the Trophy Stall sponsored Muslim Youth Organisation of Guyana (MYO) 10 overs Inter-Jamaat Tapeball cricket round-robin competition continued last weekend at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue. Also in winner’s row were Queenstown and Hustlers X1.
Meten-Meer-Zorg disposed of Triumph by 7 wickets before humbling Lusignan by 8 wickets.
Triumph took first strike and were sent packing for a paltry 52. So stifling was the batting that extras was the leading contributor with 22.
In the bowling department for Meten-Meer-Zorg it was a collective effort with 2 wickets each for Azad Azeez, Mahendra Nankishore, Amrit Jairam, A. Singh and Zaheer Haniff.
They lashed off the required runs reaching 53-3, Azeez returning with the bat to strike an unbeaten 20.
Lusignan too, took to the crease first and were restricted to 70-9, yet again, extras leading the way with 20.
Azeez transferred his fine all-round performance to this encounter as well picking up 3-9 and belted an undefeated 31 as Meten-Meer-Zorg posted 76-2.
He received good support in the bowling department from Singh with 2-12 and in the run chase, Zamal Khan contributed 23.
Queenstown playing against LBI compiled 114-8 after taking first strike, Javid Kayume making stroking 31 and Safraaz Shadood 23.
Akram Ally was the leading wicket taker with 4-7; Khalid Waiz had 2-14 for LBI who were bowled out for 96, falling short of the victory target by 18 runs despite Ally’s fine innings of 40.
Doing the damage with the ball for Queenstown was Javid Kayume with impressive figures of 4-6.
Hustlers XI defeated MYO in their clash. Rivalry is set to progress on Sunday with four more matches.
MYO will play back to back, first opposing Grove from 09:00hrs and from 11:00 they face Farm ‘A’.
Enterprise and Cornelia Ida meet from 13:00hrs with Kitty and New Mosque ‘A’ meeting in the final match of the day from 15:00hrs.
