DEAR EDITOR,
I read with interest the editorial in Kaieteur News of 2008\07\12 and found same to be quite sensible.
I, however, observed – unfortunately — that you did not mention a possibly crucial element in the equation.
The US’s snub of Guyana’s request for assistance may be because our President is on public record, where he responded to suggestions that he requests the US’s help in resolving our spiralling crime situation in Guyana.
He said dismissively that he was skeptical of asking for such help, because the US would usually respond by sending a few consultants and a paltry sum of money as help.
This, I think, is a shot in the foot for us. How fatal, only time will tell. So there you have another valid reason for the US’s snub.
