As the investigation continues into the armed robbery at Agricola Public Road on Saturday last, where the driver, conductor and passengers were attacked and robbed by three men, the police have been able to capture one of the perpetrators, who has been positively identified.
What is surprising is that one day after the robbery on the minibus BHH 2303, the same vehicle was hijacked by four men the following day (Sunday).
The police captured two men in the said vehicle at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
However, it is one of those men who has been identified as one of the bandits in the robbery of the said minibus in Agricola.
About 12:00 hrs on Sunday last, four men went to the home of Indranie, a housewife of Tuschen, on the East Bank of Demerara, and enquired about her minibus BHH 2303 that was parked in her yard and also about the driver of the vehicle.
The men then proceeded to enter the motor vehicle and drove it away using a key which they had in their possession.
On Saturday, passengers traveling in the bus were robbed by gunmen at Agricola.
The bandits also took away the keys for the vehicle but the driver managed to get it restarted and took it home to the owner.
When the hijacking took place on Sunday and the men were caught, this newspaper was told they told investigators that they were sent by a man who resides in the United Kingdom and to whom the vehicle owner was indebted.
They claimed that the men had sent them to collect the outstanding money and since they did not collect the cash they resorted to seizing the minibus.
But the minibus owner has denied owing anybody and produced receipts to verify that she had fully paid for the bus.
The two men, aged 31 and 27, hail from Sophia and North Ruimveldt respectively.
