Twenty-year-old Kenley Herbert appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle to answer a charge of stealing from his paramour. He pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison pending sentencing.
Herbert, of North East La Penitence, between Thursday July 3 and Friday July 4, allegedly stole $60,000 from his paramour, Jamella Dazell.
He told the court that on July 3, he went to visit his girlfriend and asked to borrow some money but she never agreed to lend him the money.
Herbert added that the following morning he had to leave early so he picked up Dazell’s ATM bank card, left and withdrew the money. He told the court that he had a debt to pay and it was urgent that he did so.
He added that later in the day his girlfriend visited his home and enquired about her bank card and he admitted to taking it and withdrawing the money.
Dazell told the court that she never agreed to lend Herbert the money since she needed the money to do her own business.
She told the Magistrate that she was willing to drop the case if he was willing to pay back the money. He in turn said that he would do so over a period of time.
However, the Magistrate remanded the accused to give him time to consider the repayment.
He is expected to make his next court appearance on July 21.
