Former West Indies under-19 Skipper and Guyana first-class left-hander Leon Johnson scored 51 in a losing effort for Sandwich First XI as they chased 255 in 55 overs last Saturday the final game of the first round of the Kent Premier League.
Sandwich Second XI were sent in to bat with former Guyana under-19 batsman Vishaul Singh scoring 46 in 30 balls to propel his team to a competitive 223 after they were 115 for two in the 33rd over.
On Monday Sandwich 1st XI played Peston in the finals of the THANET 20/20 knockout trophy final.
Sandwich batted first and opened with their overseas pair of Singh and Johnson and the Guyanese got them off to a flying start before Johnson departed for 57 at 136-1 in 16 overs. Singh carried his bat to finish unbeaten on 95 in a total of 176.
Johnson returned to take 3-23 with his leg-spin as Preston, who needed 11 in the last over, managed just five runs and lost three wickets and the match.
Singh, who scored Guyana’s only century when the South Americans took the TCL Group West Indies under-19 three-day cricket title last year in St Kitts, was named the Man-of-the-Match at the presentation which followed the match.
He was presented with a trophy while each player from both teams collected medals.
