Guyanese lasses ensured that their will return home with three of the individual titles on offer following the conclusion of the singles segment of the Junior Caribbean Squash championships being contested in Bermuda.
Keisha Jeffrey overcame her twin sister in the Girls under-17 final in a tough three sets, Mary Fung-a-Fat had a much easier time in beating teammate Ashley DeGroot in straight sets, while Victoria Arjoon brushed aside Emma Keane of Bermuda also in an easy three sets.
The Jeffrey girls pulled out all the stops as they battled ‘tooth and nail’ digging deep into their ever improving arsenal to outdo each other. But it was Keisha who gained the eventual edge to claim the title, battling through the first two sets 10-8, 10-8, the having an easier final set 9-4.
Fung-a-Fat breezes past DeGroot 9-0, 9-0, 9-2, while Arjoon rolled over her Bermudian opponent 9-0, 9-1, 9-2.
In the under-19 department, Guyana’s Daina King fought off a determined challenge to beat Samantha Hennings of the Cayman Islands in a labourious five setter 9-5, 6-9, 0-9, 9-3, 10-8 for the third place.
The Guyanese players will now look ahead to the team contest as they aim to combine their individual talents to upstage the other teams for the team title.
