The police are investigating an accident which occurred yesterday morning at Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, which resulted in the death of 43-year-old Owen Adolph.
Reports state that the accident occurred at around 05:45hours, when a bus which was headed south collided with the motorcycle, headed in the opposite direction. Adolph, of Lot 30 Middle Street, Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, was the pillion rider on that motorcycle.
According to reports, the bus suddenly swerved into the path of the motorcycle, causing the two vehicles to collide head-on. The bus ended up in a trench, while the persons on the motorcycle were hurled several feet away.
The rider of the motorcycle, Leroy Nedd, of Linden, a member of the Guyana Defence Force, sustained injuries to his leg, shoulder and other parts of his body. The bus driver reportedly fled the scene before the police arrived.
Adolph and Nedd were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Nedd was admitted to the hospital after spending several hours in the operating theatre, while Adolph succumbed, at around 13:15hours, after being admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Adolph’s eldest son, Deon, told Kaieteur News that he heard about the accident at about 08:00hours and rushed to the hospital. He said that all he heard was that his father and a friend were involved in an accident.
He added that he does not know where his father was coming from or headed to when the accident occurred.
According to Deon, he last saw his father on Saturday afternoon boarding a minibus with a friend. Owen Adolph leaves to mourn Deon and his six siblings.
Up to press time, the police had not located the driver of the bus.
