Three juniors finish in top six
Robin Persaud out rode his rivals in style and in the process stormed to victory in the 56-mile road race organised in honour of the Ballot Box Martyr’s Jagan Ramessar and Bholanauth Parmanand which as contested in the Ancient County of Berbice yesterday.
Pedaling off from the People’s Progressive Party Office (Freedom House) in New Amsterdam, proceeding to the Corriverton Police Station before returning to finish at No. 63 Village, Persaud’s winning time was 2 hours 13 minutes 04.93 seconds.
Three junior riders finished in the top six of a very competitive race showing that they are a force to be reckoned with.
Christopher Holder placed 3rd while Neil Reece and Enzo Matthews took the 5th and 6th place positions. Settling for the runner up spot was Ian Jackson with Junior Niles, fourth.
Holder, Reece and Matthews also received prizes for being the top 3 juniors apart from placing in the top six overall.
The leading upright rider was Hector Wilson, Shawn Frank took 2nd with Edward Wilson, 3rd. Kennard Lovell turned back the challenge of fierce rival Linden Blackman (3rd) to win the veterans category. Gary Benjamin finished as the number 2, the veterans and upright cyclists ended their battle on the upward journey at No. 63 village.
Assisting with the presentation of prizes were Director of Sport Neil Kumar, Region 6 Chairman Zulfikar Mustapha, Race Sponsor Chris Jagdeo and Presidential Advisor, Navin Chanderpaul.
