Police found the partly decomposed body of a man in his North Ruimveldt home yesterday, after neighbours reported a stench coming from the building.
Reports are that, at around 9:45 hours yesterday, neighbours in the vicinity of the 3795 Beaver Street, North Ruimveldt house summoned police to the area after getting the smell and not seeing the occupant of the house for some three days.
After police broke into the house, the rotting remains of Leslie Alleyne, a refrigeration technician, was found in the hallway of his house.
Kirk Anthony Hinds, a neighbour, said that he last saw Alleyne on Thursday.
“Thursday morning I see he, and me and he talk; and a little while after, he tell me he going out and I left around the same time,” Hinds recalled. He added that later the evening he recalled hearing movements in Alleyne’s yard, which indicated that he had come home.
“The night I hear he motorcycle and I say to meself he come, and then I hear like he locking up,” the neighbour added. Alleyne, who lived alone, was said to be in his mid-fifties.
However, Hinds said it was only until this morning he suspected something was amiss. He said that the previous day he got a stench from the yard, but took it for nothing since the man has several puppies in his yard.
“Friday, after I get the smell, I said it was one of dem half dead puppies, but my wife ask me when last I see Leslie,” Hinds added.
The man said that after his wife raised the topic of not seeing Alleyne, he decided to enter the yard and call.
“When I reach under the house I start calling, but then I see like blood or something dripping from the flooring and de smell getting stronger. Right away I come out de yard and I call the police,” Hinds told this newspaper.
He said that, after the police were summoned to the area, they were forced to break a section of the front door to gain entry to the building. It was then that the man’s body was discovered.
As news of the discovery got around, residents gathered and sought answers to the circumstances surrounding Alleyne’s death.
Many speculated that he might have died of natural causes, since there was no evidence of forced entry to the building. Some were heard discussing Alleyne’s addiction to alcohol.
“Dis man does drink heavy, and he does trouble with high blood pressure, but when ever the man drink he does find he way in he house and lock up properly, so me ain’t think foul play involve,” one neighbour lamented.
