DEAR EDITOR,
Some teachers of the Vryman’s Erven Secondary School are keeping extra lessons during this August vacation, and are collecting monies for this service from students.
Isn’t this practice against the regulations of the Ministry of Education? This practice has been going on for the past week, and should be investigated and stopped immediately.
What these teachers don’t want to do during the academic school terms they are charging for during this holiday.
It is downright wrong and unfair. Just imagine, a school which has been malfunctioning over the past couple of months is still malfunctioning while technically being ‘closed’.
This is the same popular school that has been making headlines for its inability to deliver the curriculum in an effective manner.
Some may say that everyone, especially teachers, is trying to make a living everywhere today; however, not like this.
When they go to Botswana and are paid by the African Government, they won’t behave as they behave on the job in Guyana. It’s a whole other scenario there, which means very, very hard work.
But is the Government of Guyana, and more particularly the Ministry of Education, getting value for money with some teachers in the system?
Then the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has advertised for vacancies in the newspapers recently. But I have not seen this school on the list.
Isn’t it high time that Vryman’s Erven Secondary be headed by a professional and qualified person? This school is suffering so much.
