Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc. (FFP) yesterday continued its tangible and committed support for the development of Guyana’s sports by a donation over 1.9 million dollars worth of Branded Cricket gear to 11 clubs from the East Bank of Demerara and Georgetown.
At yesterday’s presentation which was attended by a number of club representatives, FFP Chairman Paul Chan-A-Sue and PRO Michelle Branker both agreed that their organisation is well aware and fully understands the importance sports play in the positive development of the nation’s youth.
Chan-A-Sue said that apart from the East Bank Clubs, there are a few new clubs playing in Georgetown who were omitted from the last presentation but were included this time around since he felt they really needed the assistance as a means of encouragement and to be comfortable, not having to burrow gear.
“We are really trying to spread development particularly in the East Bank area where I played the game in my latter years which reminds me of my earlier days of what I would call country cricket and there is still many people out there in the country who play and need help to bring their game along.
There are junior and senior gears and we’ve tried to distribute it as best as we can so that it can encourage development at the nursery level and to spread this sport and sport generally throughout the country.”
Branker reminded that earlier this year FFP had a made a similar donation to a number of clubs in the city but they have decided to expand this time around to include clubs from outlying areas.
The clubs representatives were all in high praise for the FFP, thanking the organisation for the much needed supply of gear.
The clubs who received gear which included batting and wicketkeeping pads and gloves, helmets, bats, stumps are balls are; Eccles, Soesdyke, Herstelling, Providence, Ruimveldt, Transport, YMCA, Diplomats, Ace Warriors, Third Class and GNIC.
A few months ago, FFP made a similar donation to a number of football clubs including the Guyana Football Federation.
