The Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes (RHTF&M) under-15 and the Rose Hall Town under-19 teams earlier this week honoured six (6) outstanding Primary School Students of Region No. 6 who were highly successful at the recent National Grade Six Assessment Examinations.
The students honoured were under the two teams Self Development Programme and “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Sports Campaign”.
Recognised for their performances were Alicia Hartman of Cumberland Primary School and Jenny Bassant of Rose Hall Estate Primary School, who were the top students in the Region with 543 marks each.
The other students were Sadena Hamid and Alima Ali both of Rose Hall Town Primary, Maria John and Yashmini Seepersaud.
Each of the students received educational materials valued at $15,000 each while the four teachers who were responsible for their successes were also presented with gifts worth $12,000 apiece.
In addition, the teams handed over $100,000 in educational materials to the New Covenant Christian fellowship Church of Albion for the church’s Annual Educational and Sports Camp for the less fortunate students.
The teams donated items which included toys, story books, five subject notebooks, pencils, rulers, and scissors. The church also received six educational kits for the top students of the camps.
CEO/Secretary of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Hilbert Foster, at the presentation ceremony, hailed the achievement of the top Grade 6 students and urged them to keep the standard as they move on to the more challenging task of Secondary School.
He urged them to be role models to their peers and to always “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Education”.
Education, the Secretary noted, was the key to a successful future since the technology is changing the nature of the work environment.
Captain of the RHTF&M team Shawn Pereira in handing over the items noted that the members of both teams were challenged by the club management to honour the students and teachers and in just four days the necessary funds were raised and the items obtained under the teams personal development programme.
This initiative seeks to get team members to assist others.
And responding on behalf of the students, Alicia Hartman thanked members of both teams for recognising them, pointing out that it felt special to be honoured by their peers.
