Michael T. Prior, President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Tele Network, parent company of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), has been named Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 Award Winner in New England.
Mr. Prior was selected by an independent panel of judges, and he recently received the award at a gala event at the Western Boston Waterfront.
The Award recognizes Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Communications Category.
The Ernst and Young Award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic, growing business.
The Awards, celebrating their 22nd anniversary this year, honours entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptionality in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their business and communities.
“Ernst and Young is pleased to honour outstanding business leaders such as Michael Prior,” said Bryan Pearce, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Programme Partner for New England. “Winners of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award build leading businesses and contribute a great deal to the communities around them. Their success helps our area grow stronger.”
As a New England award winner, Mr. Prior is now eligible for consideration for the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 National programme. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California on November 15.
The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst and Young Strategic Growth Forum, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.
In accepting the award, Mr. Prior said, “I am honoured and grateful to be recognized amongst such an impressive field of entrepreneurs.
This and other recent honours our company has received validate our growth and performance. I am very fortunate to work with an outstanding group of people — both at our holding company and our operating subsidiaries. The team’s focus and dedication gives me a lot of confidence in our long term prospects.”
