A 56-mile road race has been organised by National Cycling coach Hassan Mohammed and sponsored by Contractor Chris Jagdeo, is set for this Sunday in the Ancient County to commemorate the life of the Ballot Box Martyr’s.
The best junior, senior and veteran riders in Guyana are expected to heat up the streets in Berbice as they seek to out pedal each other for the attractive prizes on offer come Sunday.
Race time is 09:00hrs and starts outside Freedom House, New Amsterdam proceeds to Corriverton Police Station before returning to No. 63 Village for the finish.
Veteran and upright riders will conclude their battle at No. 63 village on the upward journey with the first 3 in each category to receive prizes.
The first 6 seniors and 3 juniors will also be in line for rewards while 8 sprint prizes will be at stake along the journey which is expected to be an exhausting battle.
Officials of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will send the riders on their way and officiate at the presentation ceremony following the conclusion of the event.
35 years ago on July 16, 17 year-old Jagan Ramessar and 43 year-old Bholanauth Parmanand, a cattle farmer were slain when the security forces opened fire on a large crowd gathered outside the polling station at No 63 Village, Corentyne.
