For the third consecutive year, the Tactical Services Unit copped the coveted best unit prize at the Guyana Police Force anniversary route march. The event took place yesterday morning.
The TSU won from a field of 11 units on the parade which was led by Assistant Commissioner Leroy Brummel.
Blessed with wonderful weather the march, which commenced at police headquarters Eve Leary, wended its way through a section of the city to the Ministry of Home Affairs where Minister Clement Rohee took a salute.
The parade then made its way back to Eve Leary where Acting Commissioner Henry Greene took the salute of the ranks.
This year’s parade saw for the first time, the participation of the youths from Police Outreach Programme which comprised young people from Rosemary Lane (Tiger Bay).
Addressing the ranks at the end of the parade, Commissioner Greene commended them for what he described as a good show.
He singled out the units from the Community Policing Groups, the Police Daycare Centre the Police Wives Association as well as the Rosemary Lane Outreach Programme.
To this end, he awarded $50,000 to the Rosemary Lane Unit as well as the Police Training College Unit led by Assistant Superintendent Ingrid Wiltshire.
This was separate from the official awards which were decided by three judges, who are retired officers of the force.
