A taxi driver and his passenger met a fiery death on Thursday evening after the car in which they were travelling slammed into a parked vehicle before catching afire.
Reports are that Gancham Singh and Totaram Davanand, both 21years old and both of Columbia, Essequibo Coast, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Hospital at some time around 20:45 hours on Thursday.
This newspaper understands that, at around 20:30 hrs, Singh was driving hire car HA 8275 south along the Richmond Public Road with Davanand in the front seat when the accident occurred.
Reports are that Singh was speeding when his vehicle lost control and slammed into a motor lorry that was parked on the eastern corner of the road.
Following the collision, the car burst into flames, trapping the men inside. However, the flames were quickly put extinguished by public-spirited citizen and fire fighters who were summoned to the scene.
This newspaper was told that, after putting out the flames, the fire fighters were forced to wrench apart the wreck to free the men who were burnt inside.
Upon being removed from the car, the men were rushed to the Suddie Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
