Guyanese would be treated to the ‘other side of Dave Martins,’ through his one-man stand-up comedy routine, from July 3 at the newly built Theatre Guild Playhouse.
Dave Martins is one of Guyana’s cultural icons. He is the founder and creator of the famous Tradewinds Band, known throughout the length and breath of Guyana and the Caribbean, including Canada and the USA.
Martins told the press this morning at the NCN studios that he has been performing his stand-up routine for about seven years, more recently in Florida and Barbados. At the latter venue, he teamed up with Gabby, the Barbadian calypsonian, for some musical pieces.
In addition to humour, he will accompany himself on guitar for musical items when he stages his routine at the Theatre Guild.
In Guyana, other artistes on stage will be the popular Henry Rodney, Kirk Jardine, and newcomer Tiffany Hytmiah, who will be doing a story-telling piece ‘Guyana tourist’.
This piece won for her an award during the Inter Secondary School Drama competition a few weeks ago.
The shows are billed to start at 20:00hrs nightly, and tickets are $3,000 (auditorium) and $2,500 (Balcony).
Producer Gem Madhoo-Nascimento says this will be an evening of good entertainment and a new and conducive theatre for the entire family.
