At a touching yet simple ceremony held in the computer room of the St Ignatius Secondary School, seven computer systems were officially handed over to the school by the Project Trust Contact for Guyana, Kala Seegopaul.
The computer room has been renamed the ‘Pamela McCarroll Room’ in honour of the former teacher of the school.
Project Trust volunteer Pamela McCarroll died tragically earlier this year. She succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall that stemmed from a climbing accident just outside of Lethem last March.
The ceremony attracted the presence of head teacher of the school, Sharmane David, Deputy Education Officer Desiree Hamilton, and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Alfred Ramsarran. Teachers and students of the school were also there.
During the ceremony, a letter from Peter and Sheila McCarroll, the parents of Pamela McCarroll, was read; it expressed how happy Pamela was in Guyana and in Lethem. The letter went on to articulate the Mc Carrolls’ happiness that something good had come out of such a tragic event.
The computers came along with seven power surge protectors, seven uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units, and a printer. Two additional ink cartridges and 10 reams of copy paper were also included with the computer systems.
The donation was done in the name of the McCarroll family and friends. A collection, started at McCarroll’s funeral by her parents, was supported by her friends, family and other well wishers. This collection provided the resources for the donation to be made.
Sources say that the high school which McCarroll attended in the United Kingdom is also planning a fund raiser to further support this project in her memory.
