The Police have launched an investigation following disclosures that Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys did not use the weapon he was licenced to carry to shoot policeman Constable Mark George last Thursday night.
Kaieteur News understands that the weapon used by the magistrate was a Police weapon that was issued to him when he was a member of the Force. A source said that the weapon was not returned to the Police after Gilhuys ceased to be a Police officer.
The weapon has been seized by the Police, who are investigating the shooting incident.
This newspaper also understands that the magistrate is likely to face criminal charges as well as have his firearm licence revoked.
The Police, in a statement, had said that the magistrate had not renewed his licence for the past two years.
Last Thursday night the magistrate shot the rank, who was with a patrol unit that had stopped alongside the magistrate’s vehicle, which was parked on the lonely Woolford Avenue at about 23:20 hours.
The rank is reportedly in a stable condition.
