The Theatre Guild will today be officially turned over from the Board of Trustees that was responsible for the resuscitation process, to the Management Committee.
Yesterday President Bharrat Jagdeo toured the facility for the first time since last year when he donated some $15M to the restoration process and his overall response was one of satisfaction.
Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony who also toured the facility prior to its handing over told this newspaper that he was overjoyed to see the realisation of a dream to restore the Guild.
According to Dr Anthony, the Theatre Guild has not only played an important role for the country but also the region.
He lamented the fact that the building had become dilapidated and hopes that it exceeds it previous role and become a beacon for culture in Guyana and the Region.
“This building will be used to the maximum.”
The restoration process began last December after Guyana had signaled its intentions to host Carifesta X.
The process was successful due to the many donations from several companies and individuals throughout Guyana.
