The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports Inter-Bloc Football train moves to the Hinterland Community of Mahdia this weekend for what is expected to be a keenly contested competition between the three top teams in the area.
The Inter-Bloc Initiative, started by Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle kicked off at Beterverwagting on the East coast of Demerara and has been extended to many other villages on the East Coast as well as the East Bank Village of Agricola. A female competition has also held in Linden.
According to Ninvalle, this format of the game is intended to support the overall development of the sport which is governed by the Guyana Football Federation.
The Mahdia tournament he said is the first of many planned for the outlying areas of Guyana.
National Sport Commission Football Coach Dennis ‘Chow’ Hunte conducted a number of training sessions with the teams competing this weekend and has expressed gratitude with the response shown by the players.
Ninvalle is expressing gratitude to REO of Region 8, Ishwar Dass, Businessmen Feroze ‘Beeks’ Mootoo, Roger Hinds and Commander of E & F Division Roland Hendricks for their combined efforts which have contributed towards the competition becoming reality.
The three teams battling for the top prizes which include cash are Campbell Town, Air Strip and Central Mahdia.
Games will be 90 minutes duration and will be held at the Mahdia Community ground under lights tonight, tomorrow and Sunday evening.
