National champion Frederick Collins warmed up for the upcoming Caribbean Champions with a crushing performance to capture the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players Open last Sunday, at Malteenoes Sports Club.
Collins played unbeaten to end with 6 points and a positive spread of 623 to beat into second place Abigail McDonald, who closed on 5 wins and a spread of 344, while former national champion Ulric Harris placed third with 4 victories and a spread of 482.
He edged Floyd Carmichael, who also had 4 wins, but a lower spread of 106.
Meanwhile, GASP along with family members of the late Earl Vigilance, a former player will stage a tournament in his memory on June 29 at the Linden Technical Institute.
