The Director of Public Prosecutions has recommended a Coroner’s Inquest into the unnatural death of Kerry Isaacs, who died one year ago under suspicious circumstances.
After Isaacs’s death, on June 22 last year, his parents suspected foul play and requested an inquest into the death. The 37-year-old man had returned to Guyana from Jacksonville, Florida, and was living in West Demerara.
According to reports, whilst in the home of a woman, he suddenly collapsed in the midst of a telephone conversation with a relative.
He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed, allegedly from a heart failure.
The Leonora police had reportedly questioned the Zeeburg woman, who claimed that she was the reputed wife of the deceased.
Karl Isaacs, the father of the deceased and who lives in Florida, revealed that his son had withdrawn large sums of money from his Guyana bank account shortly before his death.
Karl Isaacs suspected his son died because certain persons were behind his money. He said that his son had no spouse in Guyana.
Karl Isaacs has since retained a Guyanese lawyer, Moses Nagamootoo, to get to the bottom of his son’s sudden death.
Mr. Nagamootoo said that he has communicated with the police authorities, with Forensic Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh and with Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms. Shalimar Ali-Hack.
According to Nagamootoo, the Pathologist had extracted specimens from the body of the deceased for a toxicology test. Those specimens were lodged with the police at Leonora.
Nagamootoo disclosed that the Director of Public Prosecutions has indicated her support for a Coroner’s Inquest.
