Leroy Robertson, a former policeman, who is charged in connection with the death of his 18-year-old lover, Shonnette Culley, at her Number 40 Village, West Coast Berbice home one month ago, has been granted bail in the sum of $5M.
The bail was imposed on the former Police constable of Lichfield, West Berbice, by Magistrate Chandra Sohan.
Culley, a work study student at the Lichfield Health Centre, was electrocuted after she and the accused had a misunderstanding at her home.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Donna Grant-Fraser told the court that, on May 24 last, the accused had visited the deceased at her home and, after a while, the two had a misunderstanding, following which he electrocuted her.
Neighbours reported seeing the suspect chasing after the woman, who tried to seek refuge in her brother’s apartment.
The victim’s brother saw the suspect leaving the property. The accused also took time to inform the brother that Cully was electrocuted.
Robertson has been charged with manslaughter.
