Play in the 11th edition of the Hilbert Old Beef Humphrey Memorial football competition got started on Monday with one game.
The basketball however, did not start as scheduled due to rain.
In the football competition which is being contested at the All Saints Scot’s School ground in New Amsterdam, South New Amsterdam edged defending champions North New Amsterdam 1-0 with the goal coming off the boot of Garfield Milling in the 45th minute of the 70 minute match.
The basketball competition which is being played at the Vryman’s Erven court did not get started due to rain. The game, which was scheduled to be played between South New Amsterdam and Fyrish, will be played on a later date.
Both competitions were expected to continue yesterday with Canje taking on Central New Amsterdam in football at the All Saints Scot’s Church ground which is the venue for all football matches.
In basketball, North and Central New Amsterdam were down to clash at the competition venue, Vrymans Erven Court.
The finals for both competitions will be played on Sunday which will be followed by presentation ceremonies at the respective venues and a grand finale at the Humphrey’s Residence.
