DEAR EDITOR,
Kudos to the Joint Services team for making major inroads into the criminal gang that reined terror on Guyana.
Whilst keeping abreast with the events as they unfolded, I could not help noting the cry of many relatives that members of the Rawlins Gang left their homes after constant harassment from the Police.
Attention is now turned to Linden, where youngsters are interrogated.
Given that continued Police harassment might have been one of the many factors responsible for turning these Buxton youths to a life of crime, efforts should be made to ensure that there are no recurrences.
While the Joint Services should proceed on leads based on intelligence, unnecessary and excessive harassment, interrogation and pressure should be checked if it is proven that likely negatives can follow such actions by our security forces.
Of concern to many relatives, also, was the lack of parental care, more specifically as it relates to the absence of fathers.
The female single-headed household, as in the case of Buxton, seems ill equipped to deal with the boldness of young adolescent males to succumb to the ills of their immediate surroundings.
One would hope that the revelation brought out by relatives alert fathers to the dangers of neglecting their roles.
M. Morris
