The Avenue of the Republic, deemed a no-parking zone, is once again being used as a makeshift parking area. The cleared section of the road between Robb and Regent Streets has attracted vehicles that appear to be in need of an area to park.
Vehicles have been seen parking along the Avenue of the Republic for more than a week now. Eyebrows have been raised, especially by minibus operators who ply the routes numbered 46 and 41, who have been relocated to the Stabroek Market parking lot, as they were forcibly removed from this area.
Some of the drivers say that the entire street was made a no-parking zone, not just the section where they once picked up and dropped off their passengers.
Traffic Chief Neil Semple explained that the Police were enforcing the law, and explained that, up to last Friday, arrests were made for parking violations.
“No parking is NO parking,” Semple stressed.
