The Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) has said that power has been restored to parts of the city which was severely affected because of two incidents.
In a release yesterday, the power company said that on Friday evening, high winds broke a pole located at the corner of the Eastern Highway and Kamoa Street, Lamaha Gardens.
The damage to the pole carrying high voltage mains resulted in the Kitty/Campbellville and Lamaha Gardens being without power for more than 12 hours.
A new pole was planted and the mains transferred as GPL personnel worked feverishly to make repairs and power was eventually restored. On Sunday evening, the 60KV Transmission Line linking the Garden of Eden power station to the Sophia station tripped causing most of the city to be without power.
This was resolved quickly by workers, GPL said. The company in apologizing for the outages said that engineers and technicians are working tirelessly to rectify problems as they occur.
