Somwaru’s Travel Service Limited was again the victim of a robbery yesterday when armed bandits stormed the entity and escaped with a large quantity of cash.
The robbery occurred at around 10:15 am, when two armed men entered the building and ordered all the employees and customers to lie on the floor. They reportedly made off with more than US$14,000.
Manager Edward Singh said that the unmasked bandits targeted the security guard first, placing him to lie on the floor and gun butting him.
Singh said that when they entered the building they did not even ask for the vault room. He presumed that they knew that at around that time they would be counting off money to go to the bank.
He noted that the US$14,000 was already counted and employees were counting another set of cash, so a definite figure cannot be determined.
According to him, the ordeal lasted for about five minutes and it is fortunate that no one was seriously injured.
The Police responded shortly after the incident. Up to press time no arrests had been made. Investigations are ongoing.
In June last year, armed bandits escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash and other valuables, after robbing the owner of the travel service and then turning their attention to the customers.
