The Republic Bank Right Start Secondary School Under-15, 40 over cricket Competition continued in Berbice with the playing off of the Corentyne District of the countrywide competition, with Lower Corentyne emerging winners after trashing their two opponents from Central and Upper Corentyne.
In the game between Lower and Central Corentyne which was played at the Albion Community Centre ground. Lower Corentyne whipped the visitors by 99 runs.
Losing the toss and being asked to take first strike, the host accepted the generosity of the visitors to post a challenging 154 all out in 39.2 overs with Guyana Under-15 batsman Dominique Rickie leading the way with an accomplish 38 with support from Sasenarine Ernest with 20 and Veerapen Permaul 16.
Bowling for Central Corentyne, Berbice female all rounder Shemaine Campbell bowling off spin and medium pacer Didesh Lall and leg spinner Rajendra Daesrath took 2 wickets each.
Central in reply were bundled out for 55 in 26.4 overs after being at one stage at 50-6.
Their predicament was due to an excellent spell of off spin bowling by Mark Fernandes took 4 for 2 from 4.2overs with support from fellow off spinner Permaul with 2-10. Lower Corentyne had earlier defeated Upper Corentyne by 59 runs. Upper Corentyne ended as runners-up having beaten Central Corentyne by 11 runs in their match.
Scores in that game which was also played at Albion were, Upper Corentyne, winning the toss and batting made 121 all out in 32 overs with Keifer Rose top scoring with 35 and Tariq Chaitram 20 being the principal scorers. Bowling for Central, leg spinner Rajendra Daesrath again was among the wickets with figures of 4- 32 from 7 overs, pacer Quintin Albert picked up 2.
Central Corentyne in reply made a spirited effort to overhaul the score but fell short, being dismissed for 110 in 32 overs with Albert returning to top score with 14.
Bowling for the winners, off spinner Nicolai Ceres picked up 3 for 23 while pacer Clinton Pestano picked up 2.
