Orthopedic Surgeon to work with ‘Golden Jaguars’
By Franklin Wilson
The United States Army Medical Mission currently performing medical services in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden, yesterday made a timely donation of supplies to the Guyana Football Federation and also offered the services of its Orthopedic Surgeon Col. Charles Ware and their Physical Therapists to the ‘Golden Jaguars’.
Head of the 44-member team which is made up of doctors, dentists, nurses, medics and veterinarians, Col. Martin Ridge said that they are very pleased to be making such a donation to the Golden Jaguars, who they will be rooting for in today’s return 2nd round World Cup clash against Suriname at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Col. Ridge expressed delight on behalf of the US Army and the United States Embassy at being in Guyana to provide medical assistance in region 10.
“At the request of the Football Federation we’ve brought down our Orthopedic Surgeon to check your players out, to check on their condition to help them with any aches, sprains or anything and with the assistance with our two physical therapists get them ready for the game Sunday (today). We are pulling for the Jaguars. The US Army is behind you guys all the way, we plan to be there in support of your team just like you’ve supported us on our mission here.”
Col. Ware said he is honoured to have been asked to be on the bench for today’s crucial clash. “I would like to see if we can help players not only for this event but for their long run, perhaps understand their body a little bit better.”
GFF President Colin Klass in expressing thanks to the US Army said all the players will consider it a privilege to have the services of the US Army.
“I trust that now you will become one of our partners so that in future every visit that is made you will remember us. And we can assure you that the tokens you have left with us you can be assured that it would be used not only for the further development of the team but our national footballers.”
Team Physio/Trainer Oba Gulston, who has trained in the England and the USA said he is really happy with the assistance of the US Army since his fellow Trinidadian Jason Pilgrim who is also a trainer with the ‘Golden Jaguars’ have almost had to perform sometimes things that could be considered just short of a miracles.
“I think we have a tremendous bunch of players who will benefit from what you have to offer, so it would be good.”
Sergeant Dexter Hilliman who is also part of the team was instrumental in organizing the donation.
