Seventeen-year-old Left-handed all-rounder Eugene LaFluer will captain Guyana as they hunt consecutive TCL West Indies under-19 three-day cricket tile in Barbados next month while debutant left-handed opening batsman Royan Fredericks has been appointed his deputy.
Guyana hope to take their 14th three day title since the tournament began in Barbados in 1968 and all five players eligible from last year’s team have regained their places in the 14-man touring squad which was announced on Friday by the Guyana junior selectors.
LaFluer, Seon Hetmyer, Jonathan Foo, Totaram Bishun and Leon Scott are the players in the squad who helped Guyana to the three-day title and the runner-up spot in the One-Day series in St Kitts last year.
There are no major surprises in the squad which includes four fast-bowlers including all-rounder Dilon Heliger.
Bishun, a left-arm back-of-the-hand spinner, off-spinner Steven Latcha, leg-spinner Foo and left-arm orthodox spinner LaFluer are the specialist spinners while former Guyana under-15 batsman Royston Alkins could also bowl useful off-spin.
The Guyana team is scheduled to depart Guyana on July 2 and will play the Leeward Islands in their opening match from July 4.
Guyana, coached by former first-class left-hander Hubern Evans and Managed by Guyana Cricket Board Vice President Alvin Johnson, will also oppose the Leeward Islands in their first round game in the one-day tournament July 29.
This year’s tournament concludes with the one-day final on August 2 and Jamaica are the defending limited overs champions.
