A fine allround performance by Macksood Khatweeb guided Belle Plaine to a tense 15 run win over Maria’s Pleasure as the D.D.L. sponsored 15-over softball round robin cricket competition continued in Wakenaam last Sunday.
Khatweeb hit an unbeaten 86 (8×6, 4×4) and got support from Romel Rahat 24 and Tulsie Sahadeo 22 as Belle Plaine managed 158 all out in 14 overs. Leg Spinner Ryan Ramlakhan bagged 4 – 24.
In reply Maria’s Pleasure fell 15 runs short ending on 143 for 9 off their allotted 15 overs. Opener Saeed Mohamed top scored with 46 (5×6) while Ryan Ramlakhan contributed 33. Khatweeb returned with the ball to capture 2 – 24 and Keval Chulai took 2 – 20 for the victors.
In the day’s second game favourite All Star defeated Sarah by a mammoth 115 runs. All star took first strike and piled up 226 – 4 off 15 overs with Essequibo U-19 player Oyono Sampson hitting 70 (6×6, 4×4), Wayne Osborne 68 and Wazir Khan 24, while Somnauth Prashad took 2 – 46 for Sarah who in reply were skittled out for 111 in 11 overs.
Dilip Persaud top scored with 26. Bowling for All Stars Wazir Khan captured 3 – 24 and Jaggernauth Manbodhe 3 – 25 while Abdool Salim and Anand Dinban supported with two each.
In the other games played Sea Shore defeated Maria’s Pleasure by a 9 wickets and Belle Plaine got the better of Sarah by 12 runs.

Belle Plaine 124 – 9 in 15 overs (Daneshwar Geer 30, Chandreka Ragnauth 20, Vishal Choon 4 -20). Sarah 112 all-out in 14 overs (Narendra Bhagpattie 27 , Vishal Choon 19, Tulsie Sahadeo 3 – 18 , Keval Chulai 3 – 22).
