Under the theme ‘Achieving the Millennium Goals by 2015: Eradicating Poverty in the African Guyanese Community’, the Guyana Institute of Historical Research will be hosting its first annual conference at the National Library on Saturday.
The conference commences at 09:00 hrs and concludes at 16:00 hrs. Topics to be covered at the event will include Poverty, Housing and the African Guyanese Community; Literacy in the African Guyanese Community; and the status and role of the African Guyanese Male in the contemporary Guyanese society.
Speakers will also make presentations on topics, inclusive of the African Guyanese and Private Education, African Guyanese Women and Social Organisations, and African Guyanese and Business.
Speakers for the various presentations will include ACDA’s Eric Phillips, GTUC President Gillian Burton, UNDP Programme Manager Patrice La Fleur, Deputy Chief Education Officer (Admin) Winston Browne; and Senior Staffer of IPED, Ms. Carlotta Walcott.
Contributing to the programme also will be Director of the Citizens Bank, Ms. Sarah Parris.
