Kaieteur News staff questioned
The Police have launched an investigation into allegations that Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud received a threatening text message purportedly from wanted man Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins.
The minister reportedly received the message on Friday and, according to investigators, it originated from an IP address used by the Kaieteur News.
According to the Police, the text message indicated that it was for the minister and the President. It stated that Rawlins and his gang were planning to ‘cause misery in Regent Street’ yesterday (Saturday).
The message reportedly went on to state that Rawlins was not concerned if he was killed there, because ‘lots of life will done there, too’.
The message continued that the ‘Secretary of State’ must stop wasting time in Linden as Rawlins and his gang members were in an undisclosed area.
Several staff members of the newspaper have been questioned and have given statements.
Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall stated that, if the information is true, it means that “somebody hacked into our system”.
“I don’t believe any of my staff would have done something like that, especially to Minister Persaud, because he features in this newspaper more than any other Government official. We have already cooperated with the Police in carrying out their investigations, and any further assistance they would need we would facilitate,” Lall said.
The server, when checked, revealed that none of the transactions in which the server featured on Friday has been recorded.
Mr. Lall said that the suggestion is that Mr Rawlins came into Kaieteur News, accessed the server and sent his message. This is a serious indictment on this newspaper, and the company is not taking this suggestion lightly.
The investigation is continuing.
