The fare charged by the Georgetown/Vreed-en-Hoop speedboat will increase from $80 to $100 from Monday.
The increase comes with approval from the Speedboat Association, and signs to this effect have already been posted at the jetties on either side of the Demerara River.
The increase has been a long time in the making, as speedboat operators say that they have not called for an increase in fare in quite a while, despite the skyrocketing price of gasoline.
The $20 increase is due to the rising cost of living and gasoline, say speedboat operators.
They highlighted that though the increase is not much, it makes a big difference to them.
