Police yesterday detained two men who turned up at the Georgetown Public Hospital with gunshot wounds.
One of the men, identified as Troy Bishop, 30, of D’Urban Backlands, was shot in the right shoulder, while 21-year-old Anthony Taylor, called ‘Bow-wow’, of Charlestown, was shot in the left foot.
He also sustained shotgun pellets to the armpit and mouth. Police have received conflicting reports about the circumstances that led to the shooting, which occurred at around 15:30 hrs in the vicinity of James Street, Albouystown.
According to a police source, Taylor claimed that he was shot by a man known as ‘Yankee’, with whom his father has an old grievance.
It is alleged that Taylor was walking along James Street, when he encountered ‘Yankee’, who was armed with a shotgun, and another man.
‘Yankee’ reportedly opened fire, wounding Taylor.
Bishop allegedly told police that he was walking in the same area when he felt a burning sensation in his right shoulder.
The injured men arrived at the Georgetown Public Hospital separately. Kaieteur News was told that they were both taken into custody after being treated. Relatives of both men declined to comment on the incident.
