After interrogating them for four days, police yesterday released the four Linden youths whom they had detained for information about fugitive Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins and his gang.
The youths were arrested at Retrieve, Linden on Tuesday, questioned at CID Headquarters, Eve Leary, and detained at the Brickdam Police Station.
However, Kaieteur News understands that the young men were each released on $20,000 station bail and ordered to report at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary next Monday.
A police release had stated that “after diligent investigation” investigators had detained the four young men in a house at Retrieve, Linden, in connection with reports that they had harboured Rawlins.
The mother of one of the men said that the detectives alleged that her son was in Bartica some time ago with Rawlins.
The woman is adamant that her son had never associated with Rawlins or other alleged gang members.
According to the woman, several Police ranks first visited Oronoque Drive, Linden on Monday night, and had searched a house where her son and others had gone to play video games. However, no one was arrested.
She said the ranks returned the following day and ordered several young men to lie on the ground during a heavy downpour. Her son was also arrested.
The youths were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, where a Police officer informed her that they were being questioned about “the wanted man.”
Four of the men, including her son, were then transported to Georgetown and after being questioned, detained at the Brickdam Police Station.
