With so much basketball activity on the horizon for the remainder of the year, tonight’s triple-header clash at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall is not only meant to entertain the fans, but is crucially important for the players as well.
This is the statement made by Co-ordinator of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Inter Sub-Association Tournament Robert Cadogan in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport last Thursday.
Cadogan said that with the GABF targeting a few regional competitions later this year and the impending visit of coaches from the United States of America next month where they will be conducting sessions for players and doing some scouting as well, they are being reminded to showcase their skills in order to make the shortlist of those who will make up the core of the national teams in the various categories.
Tonight’s action begins with a female affair that involves Linden and Berbice where the former is favoured to win. They defeated nemesis Georgetown in their opening encounter last weekend and is expected to do the same against opponents of unknown quality.
The second game is between East Bank Demerara and Berbice in an Under-23 match-up, while the feature is between Linden and Georgetown in another U-23 affair.
Both Georgetown and Linden has announced strong line-ups and with the former already grabbing two titles, the seniors and U-20 titles, so the visitors understandably would the be trying to avoid a sweep.
The Georgetown U-23 starting line-up will come from Ryan Stephaney, Ryan Gullen, Randy Burgess, Jermaine Lovell, Jason Squires, Kevin Cumberbatch, Yannick Wade, Jermaine Hamilton, Marvin McElla, Travis Williams, Victor Rhobe and Jaime Mayers. The Head Coach is Mark Agard with Vijay Panday as his assistant.
The Linden team is Orland Glasgow, Leonard Caleb, Dennis Anderson, Kojo Sandiford, Alwin Rodney, Stryon Obermuller, Chris Williams, Javon Nelson, Colin Benjamin, Jason Blair, Akeem Kanhai and Bonnie Wilson.
The tournament is being sponsored by Avwey Enterprises, White Castle Fish Shop, Blue Iguana and Hits and Jams TV.
