Jun 20, 2008 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
Please permit me, Mr. Editor, to respond to a letter which appeared in the Guyana Chronicle, Tuesday June 10th, 2008, captioned “Islam and Homosexuality”.
This analogy is without substance and unfounded; even the most simple of minds from among children would recognise this. Before I proceed to point out how flawed this theory is, I would like to establish the following points:
(a) In all the Revealed Religious Scriptures, this abominable, unnatural sexual act is prohibited and whenever it is mentioned it is condemned.
(b) This act was responsible for the annihilation of an entire nation or civilisation without any traces or remnants of their previous existence (Sodom and Gomorrah).
(c) When the creator created Adam, he provided him with his companion “Eve” and did not entertain him with the companionship of Steve (a male).
It is imperative for us to focus our thoughts in order to establish a base for our position.
(1) Laws in Islam are derived primarily from two sources, namely the Quran and Sunnah i.e. the prophetic interpretation of the Quran which includes his sayings, his actions, and actions of his companion which were done in his presence of which he remained silent i.e. his tacit approval.
(2) As it relates to Ijtihaah, it has been unanimously agreed by Past and Present Islamic scholars of the highest eminence and calibre on this principal i.e. “There is no analytical or intellectual deduction on any issue (especially the fundamentals) in the presence of a text from the Quran and the Sunnah”.
The act of homosexuality therefore goes against the fundamentals of Islam, thus any attempt to establish otherwise would be false and also be considered as scholastic deceit. The text states: in Ch 7: V80 – 81 “And remember when Lot said to his people ‘Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in all the Worlds.
The prophet (S.A.W) is reported to have said thrice the curse of Allah is upon the one who does the act of the people of Lot (homosexuality). These two references should suffice. It is quite unfortunate that the author has misquoted the text Ch: 49: V 3 to support his or her distorted view.
However, chapter 49: V 13 states:
“O Mankind we have created you from a male and a female and made you into tribes and nations, that you may know one another. Verily the Most Honourable of you in the sight of Allah is He who has Taawa (Peity, God Fearing).”
Could it be that what the writer quoted is his or her “CON TEXT”, for indeed Ch 49: V 13 is in direct contradiction of his or her misguided notion and directly supports our contention that Allah created the male and female for the purpose of procreation and for the continuity of the human race.
I therefore, ask the question ‘How is this Possible?’ Simple – through the blessed sexual act between a male and a female and the product of their sexual discharge.
It is quite absurd and preposterous for anyone to entertain the thought that Islam implicitly or explicitly recognises one of the most heinous and disgraceful of acts, the ungodly act that is inconsistent with human nature i.e. homosexuality.
The writer erroneously tried to establish that homosexuality and homosexuals are natural and created by God, thus permissible within Islam.
In conclusion, it should be noted that the fundamentals of Islam would always remain and as the Prophet has rightly said, “This knowledge will be carried by the trustworthy ones of every generation – they will expel from it the alteration made by those going beyond the false claims of the lairs and the false interpretations of the ignorant”.
