Tempers flared yesterday on the Friendship, East Bank Demerara Public Road after two trucks, with each driver proclaiming his innocence, collided and sparked a one-hour long traffic jam.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the vehicles bearing a registration number 22150 was heading north along the thoroughfare when it came into contact with the other GLL 294 which was reversing out of Netram’s Scrap Metal Yard.
Dwayne Forde, the driver of the truck 22150, which was laden with logs at the time, vehemently insisted that the other truck came out of the scrap metal yard without due care and attention and he, Forde, was unable to avoid the accident.
He also insisted that the man, who claimed to be the driver of that truck, was not the driver. Rather, it was an underaged person.
Forde was also outraged that the police rank did not even mark the road where the accident occurred. “All he concern with is moving the vehicles out de way.”
The person who identified himself as the driver of the truck bearing the registration number GLL 294, Isuarden Latchman, said that someone had stopped the flow of traffic to allow the vehicle to reverse out of the yard.
He added that the rate at which Forde was traveling caused him to undertake vehicles that had stopped and he then slammed into his truck.
No one was injured in the accident but both trucks were extensively damaged.
