The four children of slain Riverview fisherman Felix Da Silva were yesterday presented with bank books courtesy of Peter Ramsaroop.
The four children — Diane, 8; Nicholas, 4; Pretty, 3; and Sara, four months — were presented with the books each containing $5,000. The bank books will be maintained by Mr. Ramsaroop until the children attain the age of 18.
Ramsaroop said that those in authority should investigate the circumstances surrounding Da Silva’s death since he is of the opinion that excessive force was used by the Police. He added that too often incidents like these are left unresolved and innocent children are left to suffer.
Upon receiving the bank books, Da Silva’s reputed wife, Michele Russell, expressed her gratitude for the gesture since many seem to have forgotten the fact that she is now a single parent.
According to Russell, since the incident only Gafoor’s has come forward and from time to time donate food items.
She added that she said she has also received a small monetary donation from an overseas-based Guyanese who read about her plight.
According to Russell, being an unemployed single parent with four children is very difficult for her. Her husband was the sole breadwinner in her family.
