Ansa Mc Al Trading yesterday boosted the ‘Golden Jaguars’ ahead of their return clash with Suriname on Sunday when they handed over a cheque for half a million dollars to the Guyana Friends & Family Football Fund (GF&FFF), a new group formed to raise much needed finance for the team.
Marketing Manager Troy Cadogan in brief remarks before the handing over said this initial contribution is intended to be distributed evenly among the team as a form of motivation to beat Suriname on Sunday. Cadogan also promised that once the Jaguars are victorious, more support will be forthcoming as the campaign moves ahead.
Handing over the cheque to committee member Faizal Khan was Ansa Mc Al’s CEO Beverly Harper who said her company was very proud to be making such a contribution to the ‘Golden Jaguars’, Guyana’s Flag Ship football team.
Khan, in his remarks said that the aim of the GF&FFF is to raise funds locally and overseas for the Guyana teams and the other members are Kashif Muhammad and Mark Phillips.
“The generous donation by our first sponsor will be followed up by a bank account which will be opened tomorrow (today) morning at 09:00hrs and the account will be highly publicized so that other business and the public can support our national team together as a nation.”
Collie Hercules expressed thanks on behalf of the players who he said were very happy with the gesture by Ansa Mc Al and they will make them and Guyana proud come Sunday.
Muhammad explained that the whole idea of getting funds for the team is due to the fact that they have been traveling with the team, they understand football and the needs of national teams especially going to a World Cup.
“We recognize that there is a need to have some more money involved in helping this team go forward and we’ve seen that the Guyana Football Federation along with the World Cup Committee that is in place have been trying in a tireless way to help to make these things happen.
If we can contribute on the side with these efforts we would be happy. Our initial help will be towards the stipend of players since the company has directed that this be done.”
Muhammad confirmed that the committee is in contact with other businesses and many of their friends and associates overseas to chip in.
“We think that this fund can raise millions of dollars and we will be helping our ‘Jaguars’ and ‘Cubs’ so this fund is to assist with all of our teams.
If we can raise more money and possibly equipment from international friends and local businesses, help will be given to associations far and wide.”
He noted that if there is a need in Berbice and the committee is contacted they will try their best to help.
Similarly, if there are needs in Linden, Bartica, East Coast and Georgetown, they will be willing to help.
“However we can help with the funds that we have it is going directly towards football.
This is not a body that will be controlled by the Guyana Football Federation but we will work in collaboration with them to let them be aware of where we are distributing and who we are helping.
We will not be doing anything contrary to their rules and I believe that giving to the upliftment of football in Guyana I don’t think that the GFF would say no.”
