…says Carifesta an unmatchable opportunity
Carifesta X provides an unmatchable opportunity to showcase the uniqueness of our culture and to share that culture with our partners in the Caribbean and countries beyond.
This view was expressed by the Private Sector Commission (PSC) in a press statement yesterday.
It urged all Guyanese to join the Commission in firmly rejecting and completely condemning the mindless and utterly contemptible attempts such as that which occurred at the National Cultural Centre on Monday.
Disaster was averted when firefighters managed to contain the arson attempt.
“The festival, we believe, presents us with the occasion to display to the world, the hospitality and warmness of our people and the beauty of our land in all its elegance and glory.”
The release noted that the Cultural Centre, which was built some 36 years ago to host the very first Carifesta, “has become a national treasure and the home for the cultural development and expression of our people…It is one of a kind in the Caribbean Community.”
The statement from PSC also emphasised that Carifesta was born in Guyana, belongs to Guyana and this time around the grand festival affords Guyana the opportunity to put out the welcome mat for the Diaspora and new visitors alike and to encourage them to return and invest and share in Guyana’s future development.
